2024 Mid-Autumn Festival (Têt Trung Thu)
Recap: 2024 Mid-Autumn Festival (Têt Trung Thu)
On September 15th, 2024, our organization proudly hosted the Tet Trung Thu (Mid-Autumn Festival) at Clinton Park in Oakland's Little Saigon. The event was a vibrant celebration of culture and family fun, bringing together hundreds of families, friends, and local organizations.
The Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as the Moon Festival, is a beloved tradition across East and Southeast Asia. It takes place on the 15th day of the eighth lunar month, when the moon shines its brightest. The festival is a time for family reunions, expressing gratitude for the harvest, and enjoying mooncakes. Lanterns are lit to symbolize hope, good fortune, and prosperity.
This year’s festival attracted over 700 attendees, making it our largest event to date. We created a welcoming, family-friendly atmosphere with 24 community partners, 8 art vendors, and 5 food vendors. Our packed program featured more performers than ever before, including the Center for Empowering Refugees and Immigrants’ dance group, Ga Ga Dance Group, Green Sound Band, Ao Dai Performers, and more. In addition to the performances, we introduced carnival games and an interactive art installation at the Clinton Recreation Center. It was a beloved community event, with community members saying:
“This event was lovely. It reminded me of the Mid-Autumn Festivals I attended as a child.”
“A wonderful opportunity to celebrate and display Vietnamese culture.”
We are deeply grateful for the chance to celebrate with our community and look forward to making this event even more memorable in the future!
